Founded in 1825 by John McDonald, the distillery is situated at the foot of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain in the Western Highlands. Ben Nevis was the first distillery to distill both single grain and single malt whisky simultaneously. As John McDonald measured in at 6 foot 4 inches tall, he was nicknamed Long John which then became the brand name of the blended whisky.
